His family, including Roy called Gudbrandur 'Avi', yet Afi means Grandfather in Icelandic. Roy was very lucky to know and remember Avi.
In Iceland, it is Afi for Grandfather yet neither of his two daughters could give Roy a reason why he was called this. In his later life when he went to live with Em until he passed away.

"Einar was growing up in Gunnarstodum,. Later you have info I did not know for sure - Afi was a farmhand at Vatni and so there met Amma. Gilsbakki is a farm near Vatni where they were after marriage til emigrating. I have a picture of Gilsbakki from our 2001 visit. I will send you Olga and Heimir's email - they are in Reykjavik and Olga very much into geneology. Retired schoolteacher and can speak english - Heimir does not, though I could understand a lot of what was said so we could communicate."From my Aunt Em.

Early Work Days
"Gudbrandur was part of the delivery wagon fleet and loved horses, the closest he got to farm animals! When some of them were pensioned off at The T. Eaton CO Ltd,
they ended up on his farm. Mary SIGVALDSON Einarson, his wife, persueded him to go into farming."

From Pauline EINARSON Christopherson

Worked for the T.E. Eden Company in Winnipeg, then when he married, his wife insisted that he move to a farm outside of Glenboro. Mary Sigvaldson Einarson died in 1930.
The owner of the farm foreclosed on the farm during the Depression, then they moved to another farm 8 miles south of Glenboro (District of Argyle).

The Family farm is somewhere near Hola School near the Argyle District, MB.
'Come Into Our Heritage' book shows on page 106 Section 28 and 18, Township 6, Range 13 (18-6-13) property in 1980 of a H. J. Einarson. According to map below, it is by Frey School.
Emily Enns sent a note and diagramed this map. Gudbramdur rented 1/4 section from Felix Frederickson.
Gudbrandur's son, Henry bought it after the war.
Gudbrandur was given Sigtrigson's farm for the price of the taxes, and he put it in Lloyds nameduring the war.
Oli Arason was the executor of the will when the elderly couple died and had no children.

If you took this photo (circa 1918-22) and placed my brother, Ronald Ted Christopherson's photo next to it, they would look like twins.
Amazing how that is. Ron's son, Adam looks exactly like Ron at age 13. We miss Ron everyday.

My Great Grandfather, born, Ernest (Arni) Sigvaldason in Iceland. Father of Maria Sigvaldson Einarson, mother of Pauline Einarson Christopherson,
who was Roy's mother. Owned 320 acres of farmland in Limestone, MN in the late 1890s to 1930. A City Clerk in Limestone, Minnesota, who retired
to Lake Benton (see the farm here) . More to come. Have tracked down census, deeds, obituaries, Bios in the local history book, father and
grandfathers names along with entire immediate family.

Einar's daughter was Auslaug.
ÁSLAUG: Old Norse name composed of the elements áss "god" and laug "betrothed woman," hence "God-betrothed woman."

New resource from Lilja Kernested. She emailed three pages out of a book which mentions Triggvi Arason and Gudbrandur Einarson.
Gudbrandur Einarson1

Gudbrandur Einarson2

Roy's Great Grandmother on Pauline 'Einarson' Christopherson's side. Gudrun Sigvaldson, Arni's wife (Photo - Right side). She was a kind hearted, tough gal.
Gudrun's daughter was Mary 'Sigvaldson' Einarson who married Gudbrandur.
Will post her obituary which is quite extensive and mentions her ancestors. I suspect they knew the stock they came from, never letting it go to their heads.
Go to Gudrun's web page.
